Tata International takes a 76-per-cent stake in Bachi Group

Tata International (TIL) has taken a 76-per-cent stake in each of Bachi Shoes India (BSIPL) and Euro Shoe Components (ESCPL). Based in southern India, BSIPL is India’s largest manufacturer of children’s footwear, supplying to several international brands across Europe. ESCPL is a state-of-the-art manufacturer of footwear soles. Consistent with its renewed emphasis on aggressive growth and expansion, with these acquisitions TIL has established considerable presence in the children’s footwear segment. The Bachi family will continue to hold the residual stake and will work closely with TIL to manage and grow this business.

These acquisitions considerably augment TIL’s presence in the manufacture and export of footwear, take capacity to over five million pairs per year and make TIL one of India’s largest exporters of footwear. Further, TIL now has consequential presence in all key footwear segments, viz., men’s, women’s and children’s footwear ranges.

TIL has a pioneering presence in the finished leather business in India through its state-of-the-art leather tanning and finishing facility located at Dewas (near Indore, Madhya Pradesh). Finished leather and footwear is a core part of TIL’s portfolio of businesses. TIL already has significant presence in the men’s and women’s footwear segments and exports to various geographies including Europe and the USA. TIL views footwear as a significant business opportunity, with worldwide demand exceeding three billion pairs annually and China and India emerging as predominant manufacturing destinations.
